#258 – Feminism is Poison: Character Studies from the Second Wave, Pt. 1

The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan kicked off a new wave of feminism. Unhappy at home, the women of the 50s and 60s wanted more. Did they really have to find their ultimate fulfillment in dishes and laundry and taking Bobby to soccer practice?

The answer Friedan gave in The Feminine Mystique—surprise!—simply opened a trap door that our entire culture fell in to. In answering the question, “Isn’t there more to life than doing the dishes?” Friedan and her contemporaries helped lead women out of the home and into even more discontent.

In this episode we discuss where things went sideways, what presuppositions were off from the start, and what common ground many of our Christian contemporaries have with The Feminine Mystique.
