One of the great tragedies of our time is to be found in the popular propagation of a view of missions that says something like:
“Become friends with someone until you have earned the right to share the Gospel with them.”
or
“Don’t confront the culture and become an ‘enemy’.”
or
“Missions are done better through UFC fight-nights, backyard barbecues, and starting your own garage band; rather than going to places like Mormon temples, Muslim mosques, abortion clinics, places of community gathering, and the like.”
Are these ideas true? Should we buy into the idea that it is a ‘this’ but not ‘that’ dichotomy? Is it unbiblical to reach into the culture- in a bold yet loving way- and proclaim the Gospel to it? Should we abandon the clearly biblical pattern and model of cultural confrontation and outreach found in the New Testament which encompassed both relationship evangelism (eating and drinking with sinners) AND the proclamation of the Gospel in the hot-spots of the cultural gathering: marketplaces, religious establishments, places of philosophical debate, and against the behavior of those in political power? This episode of Apologia Radio expresses the true flavor of our ministry. This will challenge you, encourage you, and put fire under your feet. If you ever wanted to share an episode with your friends: this is the one! Here is a quote from Jeff from this episode:”The transformation of the world that Jesus is accomplishing is gradual, mustard-seed to large tree growth. That tree grows by means of the proclamation of the Gospel of the Kingdom- not politically, not by reinventing the church, not by reinventing the Gospel conversation, and not by easing into a soft-boiled, hipster-Christianity that offers little more than Indie music, lessons in tasty strains of hops, and a true lack of a sense of urgency to repent and believe the Gospel.Christ shall have Dominion. We must not alter the message and the urgency of its proclamation for the sake of having Christian Swagger and lots of people who think we’re ‘just like them’.”Pastor Luke said, “The real reason for the abandonment of a bold and biblical proclamation of the Gospel to the culture is very simple: It is cowardice; and the last time I checked, cowardice is not a fruit of the Spirit. So we present to you: The Coward’s guide to Missions. We also discuss the trial of Kermit Gosnell and the inseparable shared view of the right to kill babies after they exit the womb (after a failed abortion) by Kermit ‘the killer’, our President, and Planned Parenthood.Apologia Radio
