The Glory of the Incarnation
In the Gospel according to John, we are presented with a profound and intimate account of Jesus, the Messiah, the king. John’s gospel opens with familiar words, “In the beginning,” echoing the opening of the book of Genesis. But here, John takes those words and goes beyond the creation story, revealing the eternal existence of Jesus.
The Word Made Flesh
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” These words declare the divinity of Jesus, who has always existed and was in an intimate relationship with the Father. This baby in a manger, born to Mary, is not only the creator of Mary but also the creator of the Earth, galaxies, and everything in existence.
The True Light
John emphasizes that Jesus is the true light, shining in the darkness, and that darkness cannot overcome it. Jesus created all things, and through him, we have access to God. He became flesh and dwelt among us, fulfilling the symbolism of the temple. Jesus is the true temple, the dwelling place of God among His people.
The Glory of the Incarnation
This is the glory of the incarnation, the everlasting God condescending to be with His people, to save them from their sins. It is a powerful truth that Christmas reminds us of. Let us receive our King, Jesus, with joy and gratitude.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
