Day 20 – Luke 19:28-40

The Glorious Reception of Jesus as King

In the New Testament, we find the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where he was received as the true king. This significant moment is described in Luke chapter 19, where Jesus instructs his disciples to bring him a donkey that no one has ever ridden before. As Jesus enters Jerusalem on the donkey, the crowd spreads their cloaks on the road and shouts, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Fulfillment of Prophecies

This reception of Jesus as king was a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, particularly Zechariah 9:9. The prophecy spoke of a righteous king who would come to bring salvation, riding on a donkey. Jesus, the true king, humbly fulfilled this prophecy, demonstrating his authority and bringing peace to the nations.

The Incarnation and the Humble King

The story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is a powerful reminder of the incarnation, where God became man. Jesus, the ruler of the universe and the creator of all things, chose to enter as a humble king, showing his love and bringing peace to humanity.

Celebrating the Incarnation

As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember the significance of Jesus’ incarnation and his role as the Prince of Peace. He came to reconcile God and mankind, to bring salvation and establish his kingdom. This story reminds us of the authority and power that Jesus holds as the true king, deserving of our praises and joyful celebrations.

Let us rejoice in the incarnation and proclaim, “Let Earth receive her king!” Merry Christmas, everybody.
